The teams behind the scenes keeping festival goers safe - Penn Fest
Penn Fest is taking place this weekend and at Chiltern District Council, officers are getting ready to make sure everything runs smoothly and safely for festival goers.
Working behind the scenes with festival organisers UK Live are the CDC Environmental Health and Licensing teams.
The council teams, alongside UK Live's staff, work to identify any issues that might come up during the course of the weekend like overcrowding or unlicensed vendors.
They do everything from food and health and safety checks to monitoring noise and litter and dealing with unlicensed taxis.
Cllr Liz Walsh, portfolio holder for Healthy Communities, said: "The typical things officers are looking out for at a festival like this are sufficient staffing and security, the bars being run responsibly and ensuring that festival goers can get home safely.
"For example, alcohol is not licensed to be taken into the Penn Fest arena, so they will be checking that isn't breached and that no one is selling alcohol or food if they aren't licensed to.
"The Licensing team and Environmental Health team work closely together to keep an eye - or should that be an ear - on noise levels so that local residents who are not at the festival are not excessively disturbed by the music.
"With a huge variety of food stalls at Penn Fest, it's a big task to keep tabs on them all but it's vital for the safety of festival goers. We want people to be able to enjoy food and drink at Penn Fest knowing that everything is meeting high standards.
"A stomach upset could ruin someone's weekend or worse so we're here to prevent anything like that from happening by making sure all the food vendors are following regulations.
"We also help make sure the impact of the festival on the environment and local communities is kept to a minimum.
"We have a team of people at the festival during the two days and have an excellent working relationship with the festival organisers and all of the partners involved in the running of the event, which is what helps to make it such a success."
A UK Live spokesperson said: "We have an excellent reputation across the UK for running safe events and employ the highest standards of safety advisors, noise consultants, managers and crew to work alongside Chiltern District Council. We look forward to working with Chiltern District Council again to ensure that the event is run without any issue and is a safe and enjoyable festival for everyone to enjoy."
Penn Fest runs from Friday 20th July - Saturday 21st July 2018 at The Big Park in Penn in Bucks.
